Part 7: Spraying the vines

Today, it is sprayed with an ecological, let's call it a "cocktail" of extracts from various plants - horsetail or nettle, extracts from herbs and algae, or fennel and orange oil, which protect the vine.

Healthy bunches of grapes are the goal and basis for the production of quality wine. Therefore, the vintner must protect his vine during the entire growing season. Mites, leafhoppers, mold, fungal diseases, weeds... The vine has many enemies. Probably the biggest plague is powdery mildew and downy mildew, which destroy the bunches, leaves and shoots of the vine. Spray them! Today, it is sprayed with an ecological, let's call it a "cocktail" of extracts from various plants - horsetail or nettle, extracts from herbs and algae, or fennel and orange oil, which protect the vine. The times when the vintner bent his back under the weight of the sprayer and manually sprayed the vineyard are already completely gone. Today, he sits in a tractor that passes between the rows of vine trusses and sprays micromillimeter droplets with which he treats 10 hectares of vines in one day. Many Malocarpathian winegrowers prefer an ecological way of caring for their vineyard, reduce the number of treatments, try to use biological preparations to fight pests. They grass the interrows of the vineyard, thus contributing to the biodiversity of the environment, preventing soil erosion on the slopes, improving the soil structure and moisture management.
