Part 9: Plugging in shoots

Plugging is done to continue, whenever the vine grows. In the phase when it outgrows the supporting structure, the tops of the shoots are already shortened. Along with plugging, the excess shoots must be cut off and the leaves and the area around the tassels must be removed.

The sun's rays have a beneficial effect on the vine. Ideal if they fall evenly on the leaf wall during the entire vegetation period. Then we can look forward to quality grape berries. The viticulturist is basically an architect - he can shape the vine in such a way as to achieve strength, growth and airiness of the vine by tucking in and breaking out the shoots. Letorast is simply inserted between the two wires, and if necessary, it can also be secured with a binding tape. Plugging is done to continue, whenever the vine grows. Did you know that the aroma you feel in the wine came from the skin of the grape, not from the pulp? Some winemakers remove leaves only from the eastern side of the vineyard so that the sun does not burn the bunch when traveling to the west and the berries retain the correct color and aromatic structure. Defoliation of bunches in the vineyard is a science that winegrowers discuss a lot and everyone has a proven procedure. And that's what we like so much about wine - the alchemy that begins in the vineyard.
