Way of the Cross

Come with us on the Way of the Cross, which copies the ancient Marian pilgrimage route. For centuries, believers walked on it to thank the Virgin Mary for her help and protection.

The Way of the Cross begins in St. George, under the Church of St. George - near the parish, where a large wooden cross is installed. There is another one in the church grounds - a missionary one, but you should definitely not miss the wooden bell tower. Legend has it that the Jurians buried the bell from the belfry to protect it until it was forgotten, but years later a wild boar accidentally dug it out of the ground. As you exit the church, focus on the Cross at the beginning, located on your right hand side on the other side of the main road. This one shows you the right direction, because the Old Marian Way runs along it. When you step on it, there will be a slight climb.

Follow the signs and follow the yellow tourist sign towards the White Cross. As you walk through the forests of the Lesser Carpathians, small religious buildings appear in front of you. As the first Matul Cross, the memory of the tragic death of a young boy who was felled by a tree, then the unmissable Red Cross and the Blue Cross with a shade of "pigeon blue." With a prayer on your lips, just like the pilgrims of old walking barefoot across the undulating terrain, keep moving forward. Dušičky will appear in front of you and then a brick building – St. Joseph. Going further, you can relax in the gazebo near the wooden double cross in the Birch meadow. The road further will lead you to the torment of God - St. Anne, which was built here in 1910 by the Menšík family. From here, in a straight line, after a few minutes, you will reach the firehouse, where accommodation can be arranged. The old settlers won't tell her otherwise than Horáreň U Kocmundu. The original game house was built here in 1896 to commemorate the thousand-year duration of the Hungarian state. Today, there are buffets here, where you can strengthen yourself with, for example, a homemade bean soup with a slice of soft bread. Enjoy it while looking at the White Cross, installed in 1566. It is a silent witness to the daily visits of not only pilgrims, but today especially tourists and mountain biking enthusiasts. Crouching under the old linden trees, he will also welcome you.

TIP 1

The route to the White Cross is about 6 km long, allow 2.5 hours for it. If you can easily handle a longer route, come to Sv. Jura by bus. The Way of the Cross takes you to the White Cross and from there you can continue to the Iron Well. It's another 11.5 km and 3.5 hours. Along the way, you can refuel at, for example, U Sliva or U Hlinu, from where a bus also runs. We wish you an easy step!
