John Minahane (1950), Irish poet and novelist. Since 2004, he has been translating Slovak literature into English. He has translated the works of many novelists and especially poets, among them are: Margita Figuli Three Chestnut Horses, a selection from the poetry of Ladislav Novomeský, Milan Rúfus, Mila Haugová, Ivan Štrpka, Daniel Hevier, Kamil Peteraj, Ján Buzássy, Erik Ondrejička, Juraj Kuniak. He also translated the most important poetic work of Slovak literature, the Bloody Sonnets of PO Hviezdoslav, for which he received the PO Hviezdoslav Award.
John Minahan was captivated by the poems of the rioter Janek Kráľ, which were published in the English translation I was not Born for Quiet.
