The genius loci of this place will immediately conquer you, and at the same time, you will only gradually find out what diverse treasures it hides in itself.
Of course, the dominant feature is the mill, where they used to grind flour for bread and cakes. The local mill exposition is accessible all year round and is also significant in that it presents the only stream mill in Slovakia that has been preserved in our country and the largest mill of its kind in Europe.
So Schaubmar's mill is ours and it's also world class!
The Pálfi family signed up for the construction of this mill on the Cajlanský stream. It was built in 1767, but under the baton of the later owners - the Schaubmars from Bavaria, it underwent further modifications.
The one-story mill with a loft also had a miller's apartment attached to it. The area consisted of carriage houses, stables, a sawmill, a barn, a lumberyard and an apiary. Some of them still stand, but serve a different purpose. The Schaubmars replaced the old grinding system made of millstones in 1913 with a new one, consisting of cylindrical stools. The changes led to an improvement in the quality of work and an increase in the production of the mill.
The rare monument was preserved thanks to the fact that in 1972 it was bought by the Slovak National Gallery from the last owner - Mrs. Kornélia Schaubmarová. Today, various art exhibitions, workshops and interactive events are held in the interior and exterior.
If you honor Schaubmar's mill with your visit, you will certainly learn a lot of interesting things about the development of milling in the Lesser Carpathian region from the 18th century to the middle of the 20th century. But also find a moment to rest - for example, under a majestic black mulberry tree, whose age is estimated at 250 years.
