Little Carpathians by bike? Here are our tips

While the situation in the capital, let's be honest, is not too favorable for cycling lovers, just a few steps on the pedals and you will find yourself in a different world.

Our westernmost mountain range hides up to 890 km of cycling paths in beautifully green oak-hornbeam forests. They cross it practically every few kilometers. An experienced cyclist can ride from Železná Studienka to Brezová pod Bradlom, which is more than 100 km away. However, we will have something simpler to warm up.

"If you want to spend a pleasant day on a bicycle, the Vinohradnícka magistrála is also an interesting choice."

Anyone can really do it

We could give such an epithet to our first tip for a cycling trip. A short turn "on the yellow" from the village of Častá will take you to the majestic castle after approximately 2.5 km of gentle ascent Red stone. Not that a break is necessary after such a short ascent, but a visit to the castle is certainly worth the delay. You can then use the same route back or drive towards the crossroads "turning to Píla" and complete the circuit by returning to the village Častá. Click on route details.

If you want to spend a pleasant day on a bicycle, the so-called Vinohradník highway. It leads through the foothills right next to the lush Little Carpathian vineyards. Legends say that more than one cyclist ended up having to complete the trip on his own. The most interesting sections of the route are the 6-kilometer section between RachouSaint George, or a section that is twice as long Pezinok – Vinosady – Modra.

Cycling trip with rest in the village of Píla

Moderately demanding

We will open this category 7.3 km long circuit starting just above Pezinok, leading to the Lesser Carpathian forests and back. It would also make it to our selection thanks to the pleasant benches and shelters made for refreshments. In reality, however, we were mainly convinced by the beautiful views that occur in its highest parts. As in the previous case, it is marked with a yellow tick.

Another wine town and another cycle path

  • This time we are talking about Blue and the green sign that leads from the Harmónia recreation center.
  •  On the first section, we climb to the Three Hills location, where we reach the highest section of the road.
  • In these places, there is also a tourist turn to Kukla hill.
  • Fortunately, the name has nothing to do with the quality of the view from this hill.
  • On the contrary, if you make a trip to it, the surrounding lowlands will be revealed to you like in the palm of your hand thanks to the lookout.
  • We descend from Troch kopc via a descent and the route ends at the Červený Kamen castle.
  • From here we can continue following the yellow sign mentioned above to the village of Častá.
Šenkvice – Modra cycle route

Across the Little Carpathians

We will end the selection of interesting routes with a more challenging trip.

  1. In 25 kilometers, we overcome an elevation of 482 meters.
  2. It starts in the village of Šenkvice, and along the wide asphalt road through Modra we reach the Zochova cottage.
  3. An ideal place to replenish energy. By the way, there is also a pump track near Zoch's cottage. It has been visited by all age groups since 2017. Cyclists, skateboarders, scooterists and professional riders are also used for training. Simply, when you are nearby and have a bicycle with you, it would be a sin not to visit her.
  4. Well, back to the blue mark. The one from Zochová cottage continues along an asphalt and later a gravel forest road. A slight ascent alternates with a descent, and the gravel changes to asphalt again, until finally our final stop, the village of Kuchyňa, stretches out in front of us.
TIP 1

And when we finished our last tip in the kitchen, we can't help but add with a smile that we believe that we have made your taste buds happy with our selection. In order for your trip to be trouble-free, be sure to take enough fluids, don't overestimate your abilities and follow the cycling signs.

It is similar to the tourist one we have in Slovakia, by the way, one of the best in the world. In this case, the three horizontal stripes are replaced by the letter C. And just for the sake of interest, if it is yellow, it means that it is mostly a shorter cycling route of local importance. Green indicates moderately demanding cycling routes. Blue and red are typical for more important, longer routes and cycle highways. See all cycling routes here: https://male-karpaty.oma.sk/cyklotrasa. Goodbye in the Carpathians, friends.
