135 years ago – October 18, 1888 Slovak evangelical priest, poet, writer, columnist, politician Martin Rázus was born in Vrbic (today a part of Liptovský Mikuláš).
10 years ago - October 24, 2013 we unveiled the Monument to Martin Rázus on Rázus embankment in Bratislava.
We will commemorate both anniversaries on Sunday October 29, 2023, in Bratislava and Modra.
At 3:30 p.m. at the Martin Rázus Monument on the Rázus embankment ceremonial speeches by the organizers and guests and a performance by the Danubius Octet Singers with conductor Daniel Simandl. In the program, unfortunately, only from the recording performed by Juraj Sarvaš, an excerpt of Rázus's poem Bratislava will be heard. Juraj Sarvaš delivered the poem five years ago at the monument on the occasion of the poet's 130th anniversary with an impressive conclusion: Hail, beautiful Bratislava!
At 18.00 the event will continue in the German Evangelical Church in Modra with the Raise Life! Martin Rázus worked in Modra as a chaplain in 1911 and 1912 with pastor Samuel Zoch, whose sister Elena was married in April 1913. František Kovár will perform seven impressive poems by Martin Rázus and seven beautiful hymn songs by Slovak authors performed by the Danubius Octet Singers. , dir. Daniel Simandl.
And what does the Martin Rázus Monument have to do with the city of Modra? Well, in 2008, the residents of Modra, the artist Martin Dzurek and the architect Daniel Bartoš, became the winners of a very demanding public competition for the monument. The dominant feature of the monument is a tall pillar consisting of thirteen granite slabs in the form of books with dimensions of 300 x 68 x 66 cm. Eleven of them represent one place where the writer lived, studied or worked during his life, with the name of this place Vrbica, Liptovský Mikuláš, Banská Bystrica, Kežmarok, Bratislava, Edinburgh, Prague, Modra, Pribylina, Moravské Liesköve, Brezno, from the back in the lower part is the signature "M. Dzurek, D. Bartoš 2013". On the front side of the monument is engraved the inscription: "priest - writer - politician / Martin Rázus / 1888 – 1937". Part of the monument are 4 glass plates that show: a portrait of Martin Rázus, two quotations with a facsimile of the signature and a calendar of Martin Rázus's life. Part of the monument is lighting with 4 spotlights and framing with granite paving.
The organizers of the event are Ars ante portas, oz and the Martin Rázus Association in Bratislava, and the ECAV Modra Church Choir in Modra in cooperation with the Martin Rázus Association.
The partners are the Jank Kráľ Museum Liptovský Mikuláš, the city district of Bratislava-Staré Mesto (for Bratislava), the Bratislava self-governing region and the Modre Cultural Center (for Modra).
