We also invite you to a unique workshop, which is primarily focused on the technique of decorating Easter eggs with cotton balls with master craftsman ĽUV. In addition, you will also be able to briefly try etching and decorating with sitina - lesser-known, but historically significant techniques that have spread in Slovakia, especially in the west of the country.

What will you learn at the workshop?

  1. Decorating Easter eggs with cotton balls
The main technique of the workshop is the precise application of colored cotton wool to eggs, creating unique patterns with a delicate textile effect. Vajnory is one of the places where this technique has been preserved to this day.
  2. Etching Easter eggs
One of the oldest techniques will be briefly introduced in the workshop. In etching, the colored shell is gradually exposed with an etchant, creating fine, flowing lines and decorative patterns.
  3. Sticking with glue
This technique will also be briefly introduced at the workshop. Reed pasting became widespread in Slovakia only at the end of the 19th century. The marsh grass reed (Juncus conglomeratus) is glued into complex shapes onto an eggshell after being treated, traditionally with starch, but nowadays with glue.

Who will lead the workshop?

Vajnora artist Viera Slezáková has been decorating Easter eggs since 1993. Her work draws on traditional floral and animal ornaments, using a combination of silk, colored pearlescent, and painted patterns. Her work is characterized by sensitive work with colors - often using subtle tone-on-tone or contrasting color combinations.

Who is the workshop intended for?

The workshop requires more precision and patience, so it is especially suitable for adults and older children from 12 years of age. It is ideal for anyone interested in folk art, traditional techniques and handicrafts - whether you are a beginner or an advanced enthusiast. All necessary tools will be available on site.

Come try traditional techniques and create your own original Easter eggs that can be a beautiful gift or decoration for your home!
