The last weekend of May will also be a celebration of history this year. Already on May 27 and 28, 2023, another year of the popular Rotenstein knight festival will take place at the Červený Kameň Castle. Witness dramatic knightly battles or romantic stories from the royal court. This year, Rotenstein will revive history from the time of the important Fuggers and bring an experience of the Middle Ages to both young and old history lovers.
The main attraction of this year is the largest medieval horse tournament in Europe. Up to 6 knights will compete in competitions that will test their combativeness, dexterity and horsemanship. One of the most attractive disciplines will be "tjost", in which knights in full armor will meet face to face until the best one remains. And all this in front of the noble ladies seated on period stands.
The fairytale atmosphere of Červený Kameň Castle will be enhanced by a rich accompanying program. The Hector agency, which is behind the entire festival, has once again prepared a tour of contemporary life in the royal court and behind its walls. Fencing performances, puppeteers, a monumental battle full of firearms, horses, warriors and special effects await you. The youngest spectators will be made to laugh by the itinerant children's theater girls.
A complete novelty is the opening of the Astur falconry yard to all festival visitors within one ticket. In the shade of a four-hundred-year-old linden tree, you will experience flight and simulated hunting of our predators up close. After it, you can go straight from the castle courtyard to the castle chambers or cellars for an experience tour. Along the way, you can get lost in historic camps. The smell of period cuisine, which is enjoyed by both the nobility and the common people, will bring you there. Don't be afraid to ask, they may not give you honey duck on wine, but you can always find a warm dry one.
And so that you don't go home empty-handed, choose to haggle at the historic market. If you are interested in period crafts, you can see how ceramics, candles, carved ornaments and toys are made in the castle courtyard. Rotenstein thinks especially of children, which is why he has once again prepared a number of original attractions for them. Archery, shooting from a crossbow at the castle or a real catapult will awaken great knightly ideals in every little heart. Come and experience them up close at the biggest celebration of the Middle Ages in the wider area.
