The city of Modra is preparing for its biggest event – Modran vintage, which will welcome thousands of visitors from September 5 to 7, 2025. The wine festival, deeply rooted in the tradition and culture of the region, will offer a rich program, plenty of delicious wines, folklore, music and entertainment for all generations.
Wine and wine-growing traditions in the lead role
The grape harvest is a celebration of the year-round work of winegrowers and winemakers. This year, visitors can also look forward to demonstrations of traditional grape pressing, expert commentary, and tastings of home-produced wines. The wine associations and societies Víno z Modry and Vincúr will offer their wines, mulled wines, and ciders in two wine hubs: in Vínostan – near the gymnasium on Sokolská Street and in Vínozón in the entrance hall of the art school on Dukelská Street. You will be able to taste wines from the Víno Modranského vinobrania competition in the elegant surroundings of the city's wedding hall on Štúrová 59. In addition, you will find individual wineries scattered around the city in open cellars and entrance halls.
Grand opening at the Old Market
The official start of the vintage will be on Friday at 5:00 PM at the Old Market Square, where the Mayor of Modra Juraj Petrakovič, together with delegations from partner cities and renowned oenologist Prof. Fedor Malík, will present the awards for the Wine of the Modra Vintage competition. The celebrations will have both a traditional and modern face and will take place throughout the city center.
A varied musical program on two stages
Music will be played on two main stages – Starý trh and Kulturák (Sokolská 8). “This year’s vintage will once again be exceptionally musically diverse,” said Ján Sklenár, the author of the vintage dramaturgy and director of the Modra Cultural Center.
- Friday: Banda, King Shaolin and the legendary funky band Made 2 Mate. Bad Karma Boy, The Youniverse will play at the Old Market Square, and DJ Kopa will close the program.
- Saturday: Brass band Lieskované, DFS Magdalénka, an evening of stars Polemic, Bukasový masív, Tata Bojs and Porsche Boy. Jungleman's Ark, Christina Mantis, Satin Hands and DJ FVLCRVM will also perform at the Old Market Square.
- Sunday: A more family-friendly atmosphere with ADT Crew, Janelys y su Cubanía and a grand finale by Korben Dallas. Home bands Belasí, Headmovers and Takto will ensure the finale is as strong as the opening.
Space for street art – Show your talent
A new feature of the 2025 vintage will be a small stage called Show Talent – a space for street art, which will offer a chance for young and experienced artists to showcase their talent. The stage can be found on the corner of Kukučínová and Moyzesová streets. A lively and spontaneous atmosphere is expected, which will give the festival a new dimension and give visitors the opportunity to experience authentic street art right in the historic streets of Modra.
Accompanying program for the whole family
In the ceramic yard in the courtyard of the SNM - Museum of Slovak Ceramic Sculpture, young and old can try spinning on a wheel, pressing into molds and modeling clay. In the straw labyrinth from the ArTUR workshop with the support of PD Budmerice, children will go crazy until they are full, and if that wasn't enough for them, they can play floorball games in the premises of the Karol Štúr Gymnasium.
The Houžák Wine Festival for Children will bring a comprehensive program, from the puppet shows Wolf on the Moon and Goldfish, through the puppet workshop Make Your Own Wine Fly to the Stilt Parade of St. Urban and the Living Vine through the city.
At the Slovak Folk Majolica, you will be welcomed to creative workshops and tours every hour. There will be carousels, a rich gastronomic offer, stands with historical crafts from the Schatmansdorf Community Center, and open studios of local artists (Art Studio Davit Armenc, Ceramics Miroslav Malinovský, Pavol Šima-Juriček).
The city will also offer several exhibitions: historical tractors from the Matuškovič family collection, an exhibition about Heřman Landsfeld, the work of the Figuralists, photographs by Tibor Huszár from the Gypsies cycle, the War Memorials exhibition in Modra-Kráľová, and the Parallels and Behind the Sail exhibitions in Kaštiel Modra.
Green Blue
The Modra Wine Harvest is the biggest event of the year and the city is expecting a high turnout again. Every year, it strengthens teams at waste sorting stations and this year it has also prepared special recycling containers into which visitors can throw in their deposited PET bottles or cans, donate the deposit and thus support their city. Since 2019, the use of single-use plastics has been banned at all events organized by the city of Modra or under its patronage. Refreshments will be available exclusively in compostable materials.
