Open Cellar Day has been opening its cellars to you for 25 years. And what were the first ones like? They took place on November 11, 2000, the day we celebrate St. Martin's Day and the St. Martin's Blessing of Wines. 17 cellars were opened and visited by 500 participants. The cellars are difficult to compare with today's beautiful and representative spaces of many winemakers.
The beginning of your wine journey or your journey can be in Devín, where you can taste not only grape but also typical currant wines, of which the people of Devín are proud, but above all faithful to the local tradition. You can taste the best Frankovka in the region in Rač.
Svätý Jur offers the most historical cellars. The oldest cellar is the Renaissance House, which 500 years ago awakened people's desire for a sip of wine in its stone cellars. From Svätý Jura via the stop in Grinava, you can see the old vineyard vaulted house from 1887. Right opposite, however, you will find a modern wine showroom for comparison. The wine route continues through Limbach, where you should not forget to taste the famous Limbach Silvan. Pezinok welcomes you with its majestic Castle cellar. In Modra, a typical wine town, there are again the most cellars that you can easily walk through. Of course, your journey can also start here. There are many wineries, each one is different, each one has a unique story of a winemaker...
However, Open Cellars Day is not only about wine, it is about a beautiful landscape dotted with vineyards, about regional gastronomy, often prepared by skilled winemakers, and an accompanying program where music plays in the cellars for a glass of wine. During two days, history alternates with the present and opens its doors and gates to more than a hundred cellars in 25 towns and villages of the Lesser Carpathian region.
The event takes place on November 14th and 15th from 12:00 to 20:00. You can purchase tickets soon at: https://mvc.sk/podujatie/den-otvorenych-pivnic-2025.
