"Almost every person wants to be a hero. Me too. Not so that people would make a fool of me in front of me, but so that I deserve to live. Someone is a hero and doesn't know it, others are not, but they puff themselves up...a hero can be quite an ordinary person. That's the way it is," these are the words of the writer Vincent Šikula, who spoke kindly to entire generations. The native of Dubová returned the common man to literature, and if he had done nothing else, this would have been enough.
Malý Vincko was born in Dubová, where they say "na Dubová" in 1936. At the beginning of the village, he already welcomed travelers with a cross from 1894, he certainly knew well the statue of Ján Nepomucký from the end of the 18th century and the Church of the Rosary Virgin Mary, which he did not have in at the time of the birth of little Vinc Šikula or the years of Christ. Previously, believers used to meet here for services in the parish church of St. John the Baptist, which stood here already in the 14th century. And the saint also got into the coat of arms of the village. By the way, the oak leaves that are included in it today were added after the fact.
The village located at the eastern foothills of the Small Carpathians is mentioned for the first time in the deed of donation of King Ladislav IV. Kumán as early as 1287. Perhaps it sounds a little curious that it was founded by home buyers on the bank of the Žlabka stream. Like many villages in the vicinity, Dubová also belonged to the Červený Kameň castle estate. Croatian colonists settled here after the Turkish invasions, but they did not settle here permanently and left the area after some time. Dubová remained uninhabited for some time and that changed only at the end of the 16th century. As usual, the lord of the castle from Červený Kamen, the respected Mikuláš Pálfi, had a hand in it. The new settlers were skilled vintners, they also supported themselves by making barks - wooden wheels that every vintner needed, by burning lime and charcoal. The wine-growing tradition has been preserved here to this day, and Dubová rightfully lies on the map of the Little Carpathian Wine Route.
Several hiking trails intersect above the village, which will lead you to the greatest gems hidden in the Little Carpathians. The closest are the really beautiful Bear rocks. You can also make a very pleasant trip from Dubová to Kukla Hill, where a new, attractive lookout tower is to be built.
